Another "First" In Representation

Amy Sherman-Palladino, winner of the award for outstanding writing, accepts the award for outstanding directing for a comedy series for "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" at the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles70th Primetime Emmy Awards - Show, Los Angeles, USA - 17 Sep 2018
As reported by Danielle Turchiano on Variety Magazine, during the Emmy's on Monday, yet another milestone in awards show representation occurred. Director and writer Amy Sherman-Palladino became the first woman in history to win both the Comedy Writing and Comedy Directing categories. Her show, "The Marvelous Ms. Maisel" is a female-led comedy that was overall incredibly successful at the Emmy's. It is unfortunate that, due to the gender disparity in media writers and directors, women are still achieving "firsts" in the awards show world. It is widely known that most awards shows are biased towards those with ingroup status, but I would hope to see more and more representation in the guilds responsible for selecting winners. This would hopefully help provide a wider social and cultural context when judging what is the "best" in any given category.
