#EmmysSoWhite still rings true
The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards show Monday night proves that while more artists of color were nominated for Emmys than ever before, their work is still shrouded by a white cloud.
The show, which opened with a satirical musical number about how diversity issues in Hollywood have officially been solved, proved that racial diversity is still a huge issue at the Emmys and other award shows like it.
Only four of the 26 awards given out on Monday went to actors, directors, writers and producers of color. Let me repeat, just 15 percent of 2018 Primetime Emmys went to non-white artists. After the initial musical number, the awards kicked off with an initial string of 10 awards being given out to white artists, a string that was only broken when Regina King received the eleventh award.
Hosts James Corden and Michael Che joked about the lack of diversity, including a #EmmysSoWhite comment made by Corden.
"Corden went further into cringe-laughter territory with a joke about #EmmysSoWhite after all of the early acting wins of the night went to white actors and actresses," the L.A. Times noted.
This hashtag derives from #OscarsSoWhite, a tag created by April Reign in 2015 to criticize the lack of non-white representation at the awards show, according to Teen Vogue.

It's really frustrating how hard these awards shows are presenting a public image of trying to promote diversity, but when it comes to the core of the judging, nothing has changed. The organization, and their entire team are aware of the need for more equitable awarding, and yet they seem to ignore it and hope people don't notice.
