Rihanna is know around the world as much for her fashion as she is for her music. However, her recent endeavors into the world of beauty and fashion have been hailed as a standard for representation that other fashion brands should strive for.

It started back in 2017 with the launch of her makeup line Fenty Beauty. Fourty foundation shades that truly covered everyone -- from the darkest to the lightest -- was essentially unheard of in the beauty industry before then. After seeing the foundation for darker skinned women fly off the shelves, and stayed hard to keep in stock, other foundation brands have moved to carrying 40+ shades as well. For example, MAC now carries 60 shades. This change has been dubbed the “Fenty Effect.”

All types of women around the world, especially black and brown women, have been yearning for more representation in the beauty industry for years, but Rihanna used her platform to bring that change into reality and start a long overdue chain reaction.

Her commitment to representation continued with the her Fenty x Savage show at Fashion Week 2018.  This time, she show cased not only racial diversity, but a wide range of body diversity as well.

The Fenty show featured 14 Plus size models and 2 pregnant models (one of which went into labor backstage and gave birth immediately after the show). The size range of both the show and the actually clothing collection is incredible, but some are still calling for improvements. The Fenty lingere line, for example, goes up to a DDD, but stops there which still prevents some women from being able to wear the clothes. Rihanna has done an exceptional job stayin committed to diversity, now the question is will the “Fenty Effect” hit the fashion industry too?
