Sandra Oh and People of Color Deserve Better at the Emmy's
This year's Emmy was hosted on Monday by SNL Weekend Update hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che and despite some skits regarding diversity, it remains apparent that diversity is still an unchecked box for the Emmy's.
According to an article from The Atlantic, three out of 26 Emmys were awarded to people of color. That's like eating alphabet soup with only X, Y and Z in the bowl. To be honest, there might be more diversity jokes than actual wins for people of color. Despite people of color this year grabbing the award show's highest number of nominations so far at 38, nothing was sadder than Sandra Oh's loss for Outstanding Actress in a Drama where she was a sidenote tacked onto winner Claire Foy's speech. We can't keep asking award shows to do better when they've consistently disappointed us.

sandra oh is too classy to say it, but the fact that she’s been nominated for an emmy 6 times for ICONIC performances but has never won signals that the emmys think nominating an asian actress is an award in itself, but it’s not. she was robbed. again. stop using her for ratings. pic.twitter.com/cJ9qlpGfBQ— NERDY (@nerdyasians) September 18, 2018
