The Emmy's "Solved It"

Last night, September 17, the Emmy's Award Ceremony aired on National TV, just one week after the CEO on CBS stepped down and one year after the dawning of the #MeTooMovement. The Emmy's opened with co-hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost making jokes about the industry. They applauded that guests could now drink at their seats, then followed it up by saying, "the one thing Hollywood needs right now is people losing their inhibitions at a work function."

Shortly after, Kate McKinnon, Kenan Thompson & TV Stars performed a number called "Solved It." They were making fun of the industry for thinking that they solved their problems with race because they nominated more diverse people. They also pretended every sexual harasser was in jail or out of the industry. "There's room for all of our voices, but mostly Shonda Rhimes," and "Sandra Oh is the first Asian woman to be nominated for Best Lead Actress ever" to which she says "it's an honor just to be Asian." The skit even acknowledges that "we are all different in the same way," meaning the people in the room and "this room is so diverse from Democrat to liberal Democrat."

The song is a huge dig at the industry people who tried to say the Emmy's were diverse and the #MeTooMovement is solved. At least, they acknowledge that the room may be more diverse than ever and that doesn't mean that everything is fixed, but NO ONE on stage during the skit had a visible disability, such as using a wheelchair or cane. Most notably, the room was the most diverse it had ever been yet it took over halfway through the show to see a person of color win an award.
