Thomas & Kavanaugh: History Repeats Itself

Although their situations are not exactly the same, they are extremely similar. A conservative leaning judge is being considered for Supreme court when a woman brings forth sexual assault allegations against them. They are all set to be approved, but this accusation is the only thing that stands in their way.
The women want justice for themselves, but because of the high-stakes decisions in which they have intervened, their cause is often politicized whether they want it to be or not. I think the TIME magazine cover shows this juxtaposition very well and the article takes into account what has and hasnt changed since then.
One change that has recently happened was that Joe Biden expressed regrets over his handling of the Antia Hill case.
He said, “The woman should be given the benefit of the doubt and not be you know, abused again, by the system. My biggest regret was I didn’t know how I could shut you off if you were a senator and you were attacking Anita Hill’s character,” Biden said. “Under the Senate rules, I can’t gavel you down and say you can’t ask that question. Although I tried.”
Statements like these show that a lot has changed in the #metoo era, but the results of Kavanaugh's hearing may indicated how much has actually changed and how much farther women and assault have to go.
