Tiffany Haddish's Candidness about "Staying in your lane"

When Tiffany Haddish was asked how can we get more of diverse nominees, like those of the Emmy's this year, to actually win awards from a People Magazine reporter, her response was simple: "I don't know how to solve problems like that."

Twitter has been giving mixed reactions to this response. Some are calling her ghetto for her casual answer and others are commending her honesty. Still without a doubt, her candidness might just be making an excellent point. Marginalized groups don't always have to be the voice for the community and sometimes its okay to "stay in your lane" when you don't know something. After all, being Black does not give you all the answers about how to solve racism in this country.

Tiffany later continued to joke that she didn't go to college for that or college at all for that matter. But, that she can tell you how to structure a joke. Tiffany's response did not seem indifferent to the problem the reporter brought up, in fact she admitted that it is a problem.

Her candidness reminds us that as POC, it is okay to admit when we don't know the answer to such heavy issues that are rooted in racism. While being POC gives you built in experience that you should feel entitled to contribute to the development of possible solutions, you don't have to have all the answers, and that's okay.
