Why did ‘GLOW’ writer resign?
Nick Jones, a writer for the Netflix original series, ‘GLOW,’ resigned after allegations of domestic abuse. Just this week, Jones issued a statement on Twitter taking responsibility and expressing shame and regret about his actions. He resigned from the show and apologized to the victim, his ex-girlfriend. Overall, it seemed like one of the more direct and appropriate responses to this type of allegation.
The victim, however, emailed the producers of ‘GLOW’ with this information months before. The directors did not respond, but they reportedly spoke with Jones, leading to his resignation. After this incident became known, Nick Jones was seen attending an Emmy party with the producers of ‘GLOW.’ This caused a controversy, with the public wondering why the ‘GLOW’ team continued to support Jones. The team then issued a statement, saying that they did not intend to “normalize what he did,” but they regret it nonetheless.
This incident caused me to wonder if Jones was forced to resign simply because of the optics, or if he and the rest of the team truly felt he could not continue as a part of the show for moral reasons. Does it matter? Is public outrage a good enough reason to make a decision, or does one’s own moral standing still matter?
