Ashley Graham's Pretty Big Deal
Ashley Graham has a podcast called Pretty Big Deal in which she talks to different celebrities. In this episode, she talks to Kim Kardashian about her experience within the beauty industry. Graham discusses the double standards of the beauty industry that celebrates her body and Kardashian’s body when women of color also have the same body type but do not have the same platform.
Graham works as a body positivity activist in an industry that emphasizes a thin, Eurocentric beauty standard. In her book and her podcast, she says "being curvy isn’t a new thing" and acknowledges that she is praised for it as a white woman. Her stance is that people can be healthy at any size and rolls and cellulite are normal. However, what Graham does not acknowledge is that she embodies an acceptable form of fat. Other plus size women outside of the traditional hourglass shape are not afforded similar opportunities by mainstream media outlets, such as being featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated for the swimsuit issue.
