Celebrity Midterm Campaign
Midterms are coming up and in a few days ballots are being sent out. A campaign to get everyone of age and legal right to vote has taken to all platforms of media from Twitter and Instagram the news to which some people consider to be the same. I even had a professor make it homework for everyone to register to vote and register for an absentee ballet.
It's times like this that celebrities use their social influence to encourage people to vote and in some circumstances they tell them who to vote for. For the first time in her career Taylor Swift took to social media to support a democratic senator and tell her fans to go vote.
In the Media Psychology journal and article by Professor Christian von Sikorski researches the impact of celebrity endorsements of political candidates. He finds that the perception of the celebrity can either positively or negatively impact the candidate. For example say Lindsey Lohan was to endorse a politician for the midterms because she is cast in the negative light of the media because of her recent activities of attempting to take children away from their mother because she believed that they were being trafficked, the public would most likely turn against that political candidate. However with an endorsement from someone like Taylor Swift, an angel in the eyes of the public could greatly increase support toward a candidate.

i thought this blog post took a very interesting perspective on the voting midterm elections. I agree that celebrates such as Taylor Swift can use her media outlet as a power source to persuade and educate more people to vote.
