Kiera Knightly explained on the Ellen Show that she does not allow her three-year-old daughter to watch certain Disney Princess movies. Knightly disproves of classic fairytale stores such as Snow White, Cinderella, and the Little Mermaid because they revolve around a man saving the princess.
Fairytale movies like these are recreated from outdated stories. Some may say that these movies are fun movies for little kids to watch and that they are harmless, but I support Knightly in her decisions in monitoring her young daughter. There should be more fairytales for little girls so they could see themselves as having agency, not having to rely on a man to start her life and make decisions for her.

This is really interesting. I also saw an article the other day that Kristen Bell explains consent to her daughters when she reads them Snow White. While I think it might be a bit extreme to ban children from all of these old fairy tales and princess movies, I think it is important to have conversations to discuss major issues. I think the way Kristen Bell talks about these issues with her children keeps them interested in the story, maintain their childhood innocence, and become more social aware of important issues.
