Ana Navaro Joins the View
Ana Navaro joins “The View” for season 22. Navaro is the third Latina to be a regular co-host on the show in its 22 year run. She describes herself as a moderate centrist republican and is an outspoken critic of President Trump. Navaro will bring her unique lived experience to the view. It seems as though all of the republicans on the show have been white women. Navaro shows us that there are minorities who support the Republican Party. She also gives a voice to issues related to the Latin American community. I believe “The View” has only featured black and white women who play into the more traditional roles. They have yet to hire a transgender woman or an Asian woman. This is a step towards a more diverse cast.
I think Ana Navarro is a very good choice to illustrate how every minority group is not a monolith. As she is a Republican Latina, she gives a different perspective on being part of the 20% of Republican Latinos. I definitely feel like the View is less diverse and less relatable compared to other talk shows like The Real which has a younger cast of a Latina, an Asian woman, a biracial black woman and another black woman.
ReplyDeleteVery surprising to me, I did not see this coming. I agree that the View is one of the less relatable talk shows out there for my demographic but I think it's still interesting to watch for that very reason. I've also never understood Ana Navarro's positionally of being pro Latino and also pro republican. I'm interested to see how here identity meshes with the other hosts on the show.
