Mental Health Conversation
Mental health is often symbolically annihilated in the media. However, Arianna Grande tweeted about how useful her therapist is. This is a great way to get mental health conversation on the forefront. However, it bothers me that she is expected to just overcome her trauma overnight and feel strong again. I think it ignores the longterm effects of mental health. It insinuates that women are just supposed to "fix" their problems immediately. I appreciate that she said she still has work to do because the more we normalize mental health and therapy, the better off we will be.
Arianna Grande's response was important to show that working through trauma takes time. Mental health is often not discussed unless the media is forced to address. This happens whenever it relates to a celebrity or a mass shooting. I think social media, particularly Twitter, is where most of the conversation happens. I appreciate that Arianna Grande is publicly making it known that it is a constant struggle that requires patience and understanding.
