Monica Lewinsky and the Female Gaze
Monica Lewinsky agreed to be a part of "The Clinton Affairs," a documentary to be aired on Netflix. She is reclaiming the story that made her an international victim and the recipient of mass bullying online and in the press. In an article published by The Mary Sue, Lewinsky claims that almost all the history books written about the scandal are by men. She asserts that the documentary, " not only includes more women’s voices, but embodies a woman’s gaze: two of the three main editors and four of the five executive producers are women. " She is acknowledging the power of the male gaze and male dominance in news reporting. Lewinsky can see that not providing women with the opportunities to tell stories from their point of view neglects a piece of the truth.
