The Favourite
The Favourite is a film about women, power, and the complexity of human relationships. The plot is centered around three woman - Queen Anne (Olivia Colman), Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz), and Abigail (Emma Stone). The film seems to go off the idea that these are women who have realized that the world is stacked against them and that men who are of no benefit are to be pushed off to the sidelines.
This film is an example of media being used as a tool for representation. Centered around women, their struggles, and the power that the attain, is a great reflection of women today. What is interesting to me about this film is that it is set in the 18th Century where women were not seen as anything other than sex objects. Because this film displays these women as symbols of power and complexity, I think it does an amazing job of representing what should be more recognized today.
I completely agree and see your point about the actual characters the women play in this film. They are not your stereotypical women, and they are defying these standards. I love the fact that these women's roles are complex and serve a large purpose in the plot of the film.
