Gay Superhero

The "Game of Thrones" star, Kit Harington calls out Marvel in an interview with Variety at the Toronto Film Festival. Harington wants to know why Marvel has not represented the LQBTG community in its films. Specifically "Why hasn't a gay actor starred in a Marvel Film?" Since April 2011 "Game of Thrones" has casted 11 LGBTQ characters. In the same time frame Marvel movies have casted two. In an article on Fansided Corey Smith writes, "Conversely, the Disney owned MCU, having currently released 20 films and a box office tab of over 17 billion dollars, has only produced two LGBTQ characters, Thor: Ragnarok’s Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Black Panther’s Okoye (Danai Gurira), neither of whom’s sexuality was addressed directly on screen."

Maybe it isn't just a Marvel problem. What if it is a platform problem? Marvel is owned by Disney. "Game of Thrones" is ran on HBO. There is a clear line of censorship found in any Disney movie. While there is a long history of Disney characters that have been suspected of being in the LGBTQ community, but there is no confirmation.  Having an openly gay Superhero could break through those barriers of censorship for not only Marvel characters, but all of Disney.
