#Ovetime4FarmWorkers, Capitalism, Racism and Vegetarianism

#Ovetime4FarmWorkers has been sweeping the internet throughout the past few days, inciting debate on issues which relate to and intersect with the exploitation of farm workers in the United States.
On September 9th, 2018, the Twitter account for United Farm Workers, a union created by Cesar Chavez in 1962, began tweeting pictures and videos of various workers, captioning them with phrases meant to humanize farm laborers, many of whom belong to immigrant families. When he formed the group, Chavez had hoped to integrate ideas of progress and anti-racism while advocating for better treatment and higher payment of grape farmers in California, all the while condemning capitalist ideologies which sustain migrant exploitation.

One woman retweeted a particular post and added a message to it addressing the hypocrisy in vegetarian arguments. She noted how such groups consistently address their disgust regarding animal exploitation, but fail to support people who are exploited and victimized by capitalist systems. She criticized vegetarians for their lack of allyship towards people of color and people who belong to vulnerable populations who are often mistreated in the United States.
