Queer Eye Cast Break the Internet and the Gender Norms

Jonathan Van Ness of Netflix's Queer Eye stole social media's chatter after his ensemble at the Emmys.

The cast of Queer Eye's looks stirred up conversation among social media users, but in particular Jonathan Van Ness received simultaneously the most scrutiny and the most praise. He removed the gender stereotypes of what people who identify as a "man" have to wear. He is flaunting sheer top, a sparkling skirt and a thigh-high slit. He posted on Instagram:

The caption is: "We absolutely came to slay this lewk & fuck a gender norm, biggest congrats to the @queereye family on our wins! Styled by @alibstyle Grooming by @juliannekaye"

One Twitter user responded, "“What did we do to deserve Jonathan Van Ness?”

However, the outfit didn't go without scrutiny. One example is the user who commented: "The guy in the dress looks like the villain in despicable me 3."

Jonathan Van Ness clapped back by saying: "I look (expletive) stunning and my name is Jonathan, snap chat filter using on your Insta tiny circle private profile having self."

But what's missing? The transgender community hasn't weighed in on the topic and Van Ness doesn't explicitly identify as transgender.
