"The Hate U Give" - A Social Movement Movie

A new movie called, The Hate U Give, is about a black teen who witnesses the shooting of her best friend by a white police officer.

The release date of the movie has been moved up a full 2 weeks after the showing at the Toronto Film Festival. The director and producers agreed that this film needed to be released sooner to get the message about the film out to audiences as soon as possible. The movie discusses issues about racism, police brutality, 'Black Lives Matter', how teenagers are treated in society, and the power of social movements in today's age.

Many people on social media have praised this movie for giving a voice to a black teenager in a major motion picture and shinning a light on major race issues we face in this country. The actors in the movie have also been advocates for the causes discussed in the movie and are using social media to push their message to a larger audience. The star of the movie, Amanda Stenberg said, "If you think of the world as post-racial, you're obviously ignorant to the realities black people face everyday."

  1. I am super excited for this movie! I saw the trailer for the film and was amazed at how diverse the cast is and on the wide range of issues it seems like the movie is going to cover like inequities in education, code switching and of course, police brutality and more.
