Thin Privilege

I recently read an opinion article from the LA Times about the topic of thin privilege and the effects it has on our society. I definitely think that the topic of privilege is similar to the topic of hegemony. People in our society that are deemed thin, especially if they are white women hold power over other women who are of color and not thin. Bea Lewis, author of this article states, "as a society we place too much emphasis on what we look like." Society and people in our society are so worried about the number on the scale or the size of their dress. Our society places thinner women at the top because they are deemed "beautiful." By placing these women at the top based on their physical appearance is giving them power, and with power comes privilege.
