A film festival oriented around recognizing modern and repairing older films with LGBTQ related subjects is gaining a lot of respect. "Outfest Legacy Awards," as discussed in this Variety article, is doing incredible work in fighting the symbolic annihilation that has faced LGBTQ populations throughout film history. Through seeking out and repairing films with these subjects, the festival is going back in time to help counteract the invisibilizing of these communities over the past hundred years. One great example of their work, highlighted in the article, is the repairs done to the 1919 silent movie, "Different From the Others." This film, about a gay musician's romance, was almost entirely destroyed by Nazis in its time, and now is recrafted and repaired in a manner that will allow it to live on the hundreds of years in climate-controlled storage.
