Our Government Has Always Comprised of R*pists CW//TW: mentions of sexual assault, rape, and rapists

An NPR article released earlier today brings about an extremely sensitive and intense topic; sexual assault in the media and the consequences of bringing rapists into our governmental structure. People have begun to ask, what types of choices will a rapist make for our government? How responsible will they be? How empathetic will they be? It’s extremely important to discuss these questions; however, with this argument comes the assumption that our government is not made up of rapists. No one has proof of current Supreme Court judges and their personal histories, because powerful people in government (aka white men and white women) haven’t felt the need to confront such an issue when investigating eligibility to obtain control in government. Those who perpetuate power dynamics in their personal lives are able to do the same thing in a governmental context as well.
