Random Acts of Flyness: Commentary on all the -isms
Random Acts of Flyness is a show that is truly one of it's own. It has no plot and is compromised of several different skits that aim to "explores cultural idioms such as patriarchy, white supremacy and sensuality via numerous interconnected vignettes" according to HBO.

The show covers such topics in a similar fashion to shows like SNL, or Key and Peele. The skits range from humor to thrillers to even lustful scenes. While the show does feature many stereotypes, it does so in a way that is critical of them. Or it will contextualize certain stereotypes in a way that shows us it's inaccuracies or why sometimes individuals are perceived this way. The show was created by Terrence Nance and has mostly executive producers of colors in addition to three women of color. This is significant because media is overwhelmingly produced by dominant social groups, such as, heterosexual White males.
Yet, while HBO often does have diverse producers and cast members, one major criticism of HBO is that it is often inaccessible to POC because it streams outside of television or more affordable streaming services such as Netflix. This is still a challenge that is yet to be solved to make Black made content like Random Acts of Flyness, Insecure and Power on HBO more accessible to more POC. Nevertheless, I think the increased productions of such shows is a step in the right direction.
