Symbolic Annihilation and Kehlani

Kehlani is a singer/songwriter from Oakland, California. She is an active feminist and advocate for equal rights for the LGBT community, with which she identifies as Queer. On October 12, she announced through tweets and on Nicki Minage's radio show that she was pregnant.

The media went into a frenzy questioning "how someone is queer could be pregnant."

The publics response, as well as her defense of it, demonstrate that people still don't understand how sexual fluidity and reproduction work. Moreover, that entire community is symbolically annihilated so people don't see queer women getting pregnant. Kehlani stepped out to own her sexuality and her man's sexuality. This emphasizes that sexuality operates on a spectrum and shouldn't be grouped.
