The Hate You Give
The Hate You Give is a new film about 16-year-old Starr Carter who witnesses the death of her childhood best friend during a routine traffic stop gone wrong. In this predominantly black urban community where Starr lives, she is urged to stand before a grand jury seeking the indictment of the white cop who killed her unarmed black friend.
This film is an important media representation of the racial injustices in our communities today. Black Lives Matter has been an essential movement in the call for racial justice as well as accountability. The Hate You Give gives people within the black community a platform for their problems and is a much needed representation of the frustrations with our criminal justice system today. This film takes a step in the right direction in shining the light on a major issue that still needs to continue to be addressed today and everyday.
