Trump Claims "Middle Easterners" are Part of Caravan of MS-13 Trying to Cross the Border? (I don't understand it either)
Donald Trump is adamant about detaining a caravan full of people attempting to cross the border into the United States. In an attempt to garner more support for doing that, he said, "Go into the middle of the caravan, take your cameras and search, okay? You are going to find MS-13, you are going to find Middle Eastern, you are going to find everything."
Going along with our last class, I think it's really interesting that the President is equating an extremely general group ("middle eastern") of people, in a context where, not only do not belong, but with a horrifying gang, MS-13. These generalizations about the caravan are harmful to American's perceptions of immigrants, as well as bolstering the stereotype that all Latinx immigrants are gang members, and the idea that where there's bad people, there's "middle eastern[ers]".

Interesting how Trump likes reporters when they do what he wants, like we talked about in class, when they are perpetuating his agenda. His comment is so dumb and overtly racist, and when it is someone like the POTUS perpetuating these stereotypes about Latinx and about people from the Middle East these stereotypes are hidden in political discourse and become structural influencing private racism
