MIDTERM ELECTIONS: INCLUSIVITY AND NEOLIBERALISM

A video news report was published recently by NBC news. The report discussed voter efficacy and opinions regarding the current midterm election process, and it focused on several towns and counties in Colorado. The search proved to be more inclusive, because the reporting team traveled to various towns within Colorado. The reporter engaged with people within each town or district that the team traveled to and from, which shows an attempt to garner political self efficacy and the importance of acknowledging all American citizens, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, etc. However, none of the members of the reporting team in the video address in depth or with personalized reasons why they often feel misrepresented by their representatives in Congress, which have to do with hundreds of years of systemic discrimination. Early in the video, one person mentions their discontent with the current President, but the issue is not discussed further, and that person’s opinion is erased from media representation. This NBC show utilizes cultivation to reproduce the neoliberal American dream.
