Afro Art

Afro Art is a photo series created by CreativeSoul Photo to celebrate afro hair and give Black girls positive representations in the mainstream media. A black couple used their photography studio to showcase diverse hair textures and styles. They said they wanted to have diverse images of kids in their natural curls and embracing their culture. Each girl in the photo series has an elaborate hairstyle and clothing, which challenges hegemonic beauty standards that we see in the mainstream media. CreativeSoul Photo has done a good job showing the beauty within the Black community. We often see light skin Black people and straight or acceptable styles of curly hair. Afro Art embraces all textures and skin tones tells people that afros are beautiful.
