Ageism & Joe Biden?
A Buzzfeed article talks about how Biden might be too old to run for president in 2020. Is this ageism? Biden is 75 years old and many fear that he is not aware, innovative or fresh enough for what this country needs even if he might be a liberal Democrat and way better than Trump. While it is true that Biden is old and that this will affect how he navigates his presidency, is it fair to say that he is not the best candidate for presidency simply because of his age? While he is certainly not being depicted in the grumpy stereotypical way that elderly folks are often depicted in this article, there is a hint towards a kind of cultural inferiority that he posses that discredits him as a candidate. While I do think it is a little discriminatory to rule him out simply because of his age, it is true we need something new. History has been a series of old White men ruling this country, while Biden was Obama's right hand man, what really makes him special?
I think ageism is a big issue in elections, especially when it comes to female candidates, but there is definitely a sweet spot. People see age as maturity much of the time, but only up to a point. If Joe runs we may see if people find him wise or only see him as elderly
