Bodyguard

Bodyguard is one of the newest British television shows being streamed on Netflix. The pilot episode involves a Muslim woman named Nadia who is portrayed as a terrorist or rather a victim of brainwashing by her husband. Nadia has a bomb strapped to her chest on a train full of people. A British police officer approaches her and convinces her to not blow up the train which would kill all of them by telling her that he can keep her safe specifically form her husband. After the bomb is safely taken off of her chest the police officer reassured her that she would never have to see her husband again and he could no longer hurt her.

This is a media form where private actors in the sense of this show is not involved with the government, showing beliefs intact with Islamophobia. As we discussed in class the media has the ability to shapes societal beliefs on groups of people. If people of Islam are always portrayed as terrorist of violent and the women as helpless then it feeds into the stereotype of what it means to be Islam.
