Caucasians Logo

Frederick Joseph wore a shirt that mimics the logo for the NFL’s Washington Redskins. The Native American character is racist and offensive towards the native American community. Joseph’s shirt had the likeness of a white man and said “Caucasians.” Although the shirt did not depict a slur, some found it to be offensive. While wearing the shirt in New York City, a white man mistook the shirt for the real one and said, "Go Skins!," he then called him an “ass-hole” realizing what the shirt actually depicted. Another woman stopped him and asked him why he was wearing a disrespectful shirt. Joseph asked her if show would feel the same if it were the actual team team. She said no because that was the actual logo.

Nothing about that shirt was derogatory but people perceived it as disrespectful. People have complained about how offensive the actual logo is. The fact that such teams names and imagery continues to be used reflects stigmatized position of Native Americans. They have been symbolically  annihilated for so long that it seems acceptable to continue using their likeness for sports team. It also keeps them stuck in time.
