Colorism - racism within minority communities
Afro-Latinos often express they feel they have to choose a racial identity, preface one or the other, or prove the part that's not visible. This is common for many mixed race people, but for Afro-latinos there is often a stigma against being darker skinned because of the history of colonization that led to the internalization of racism. In the video they talk about being told not to marry or date blacker people in the interest of "arreglar la raza" or "fixing the race." Sentiments like that are ingrained examples of intragroup racism that invalidate the intersectionality of identity.
