Idris Elba--Sexiest Man Alive

Earlier this semester, we discussed systematic and institutionalized racism in magazines, such as People's 'Sexiest Man Alive' and how they only feature white male actors. This week, People Magazine released their 'Sexiest Man Alive' cover, this time featuring a Black man, who is also an actor, Idris Elba.
Last year's pick was the very bland and basic, Blake Shelton. I think this year's pick might be attributed to the rise to power and screens that people of color are making this year in media. Although choosing a black man to a widely-known magazine prestige is a big step, there's still a lot more work to do.
