Inaccurate Media Content
In the article, “Sexism in the Middle Eastern workplace”, by
an anonymous author breaks down the media in Yemen that inaccurately depicts
the conditions of the workforce. Based off the corporate media, an outsider would
perceive the workforce as much more inclusive and gender equal than it actual
is. The author expands on the toxic masculinity in the work force that oppresses
and belittles the women positions. Additionally, the article talks about the
manipulation that occurs through the misleading media outlets. The media discusses
gender equality and equity, however only to look progressive and not for the meaning
of what gender equality stands for. I thought this was interesting how through
media outlets the Yemen work force seems like it is doing the “right” thing socially.
This made me question if this media manipulation occurs more frequently than I
thought. I think because of all the social movements that are voicing for women
equality especially in the work force, that corporate companies have a media presence
that is meant to look good. This inaccurate media representation can be
problematic when the reality does not correlate with the content.
