LGBT History-Making Television Moments

In GLADD's 2018 report on LGBT representation in the media this year, the numbers have shown that there is a record breaking number of LGBT characters in the media. Shows like Pose and Supergirl, feature transgender characters, increasing representation in the media.

"Overall, GLAAD found that the number of LGBTQ series regulars on broadcast TV airing in primetime has increased from 2017’s 6.4 percent to an all-time high of 8.8 percent. It also found that the 2018-’19 TV season marks the first time that LGBTQ characters of color outnumber white LGBTQ characters, and reported that all TV platforms (broadcast, cable, and streaming) have shown significant increases in LGBTQ characters of color."

While there is still room for improvement, it's great that the amount of representation in the media is increasing and people are starting to see more diverse images in the media. It is important that people see images of themselves reflected in the media. Members of the LGBT community and people of color have been symbolically annihilated for so long and they deserve equal representation.
