She-Ra, The Princess of Power was a cartoon that debuted in 1985, with its core theme being a story of transformation. Today, the animation has been remade and streams on Netflix. Sticking to its theme of transformation, the show displays allegories of alter egos and the authenticity of self, resonating in particular with LGBT audiences. Named one of the most LGBT-inclusive and diverse shows on television, this cartoon is an important tale of representation. The LGBT community never got to see themselves being represented in cartoons growing up, and now today’s generation of young people within this community can.
