Mental Illness in Video Games

Disability awareness, especially mental illness, is almost unheard of in video games and video game fan communities. So, when this video was posted onto the Destiny 2 Reddit page, fans were shocked and, most surprising, incredibly grateful, explaining how much the video helped them in a bad time.

This highlights the need for accountability on behalf of video game content creators. They are not accurately representing their consumers, and that has negative impacts on identity formation and can even cause an internal effect- where those with disabilities believe they are the problem, and that they are 'less than' those who are able-bodied or neurotypical.

The response from this powerful video was overwhelming. Destiny fans all over twitter were talking about how beautiful this small message of hope was. Representation matters, especially since teenagers (the demographic who most frequently play video games) are committing suicide at alarming rates.
