Michael C. Hall and Fluid Sexuality
This week during an interview, actor Michael C. Hall discussed his sexuality in an open manner, as seen on Huffington Post. In the interview, he says he does see himself as heterosexual, however not fully and has always "leaned into any fluidity in terms of my sexuality." In an industry where fully gay actors have had to live in the world of the glass closet, it is interesting to be in a time where entertainers that could easily live their lives being perceived as fully straight would come out as something else. I think he does this in a manner that opens the conversation of the spectrum of sexuality, despite not identifying as homosexual or even bisexual. In comparison to other actors who have been perceived as fluid, like James Franco's comment about being "a little gay," Hall discusses the matter with a bit more grace.

I think allowing for fluidity of sexuality is important for breaking down gender and sexual binaries. Expecting people to come out as just one thing supports the dominance of heteropatriarchal standards.
ReplyDeleteFluidity is a great way to think about sexuality because sexuality is on a spectrum! I hope to see more celebrities open up about sexuality and the concept of fluidity out of the glass closet.
