NBC Pulls Racist Ad
The latest racist advertisement ran on Sunday night during the NFL primetime game. The advertisement which you can find at this link is sponsored by the Trump administration and is meant to influence citizens to vote republican at the polls tomorrow. The advertisement show people in Mexico in caravans trying to cross the United States borders. The advertisement shows the people as violent specifically referencing Luis Bracamontes with the subheading 'cop killer and an illegal immigrant'. This advertisement frames it so that the viewer believes that all immigrants are violent cop killers.CNN refused to run the advertisement to begin with and after the response to the advertisement NBC, Facebook and Fox News have pulled the ad. In response Trump supports have put the ad on Twitter in an attempt to make it go viral. Others have condemned the advertisement and are upset that networks ran the ad to begin with.
I think that it is important that the mainstream media recognizes when ads are racist, sexist, or homophobic and refuse to run them. The media has a huge amount of control over what the public sees and thinks, and ads are a big part of this. I'm glad that all these major networks took the ad off the air and prevented these racist ideas from being perpetuated.
