New York Post: California shooter was a 'weird' loner

New York Post tweeted that the Thousand Oaks shooter, Ian David Long, was a 'weird' loner who danced in his garage.

The article mentioned in the tweet mentions that he may have been suffering form PTSD. However, in the rest of the article, there are several quotes that mention that mental health professionals had no reason to worry about Long's mental state. New York Post fabricated the fact that he had PTSD in the first sentence of the post, knowing that most readers do not read the entire article. Before mentioning anything else, they discuss his dogs and his tattoos to paint him as an animal-lover, a bad boy, and a loner.

New York Post's representation of the Thousand Oaks terrorist wants to surprise me, but it sadly doesn't. Whenever a mass shooting occurs, it is not difficult to find a popular news site that discusses their mental health. There is always an attractive and sympathetic portrayal to these white shooters.

This is just another example of the ultimate attribution error.
