Pretty Little Thing Uses Two Models

People on Twitter praised Pretty Little Thing for putting two models in the campaign for their newest collection. One model is a straight size and the other is plus size. Typically we only see on or the other and both are marketed separately. Many on twitter see this as a win for body diversity because they are wearing the same clothing. Others suggested that they feature models with darker skin tones and various heights.

This campaign normalizes bodies that are not thin. One can argue that the plus size model is an acceptable form of fat because she has an hourglass frame. However, I still think that this is a step in the right direction. Plus size women are symbolically annihilated from the fashion industry. They are rarely depicted in campaigns that cater to young women and as the object of affection.

  1. I see several companies doing this now like Dolls Kill who mixes in straight size and plus size clothing while shopping rather than keeping them separate. Which is definitely great, but I agree they're often still "acceptable sizes of fat"
