Things Not to Say to People Who Stammer

I recently became acquainted with a really cool woman who used to work at my internship and spoke at a conference I went to. At the conference, she spoke of her experience of going through speech practice as someone with a stammer. Throughout the conference I realized that she was probably the first person I met in real life with a stammer and why is there a symbolic annihiliation of people who stammer in media. It also reminded me of this BBC3 video of people who stammer sharing their lived experiences. I'm glad the BBC is making videos like this on communities who do not get a lot of representation and deal with the real life consequences of how people's ignorance of a certain community can affect how they interact with people in that community. Some of the participants mention movies with people who stammer like the King's Speech and Water Boy and how that's affected public perception of people who stammer.
