WNBA Opt out

Sports are a form of entertainment. It’s like buying concert tickets and then going and getting a t-shirt and ordering food and sitting back while people perform for you. Then instead of buying an album you buy NBA ticket and download the ESPN app to follow your favorite team and get notifications so you never miss your player hitting the game winning shot.
Without players there are no sports and the WNBA has been battling for the same treatment that any male professional athlete would be given.

Today the WNBA players association decided to opt out of their CBA or Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Nneka Ogwumike said that they chose to opt out because of "player experience". In the ESPN interview she also said, "The game isn't the game without us." She explained that it was not an easy decision but it the players made a very educated decision.

This past summer during the WNBA season several the Las Vegas Aces traveled for over 24 hours straight and were forced to forfeit a game against the Washington Mystics because the Aces players did not feel it was healthy or fair for them to play.

The new CBA is hopefully going to help the players have a better experience as players and really dedicate themselves to their craft while also allowing them to understand and even help improve the business side of the WNBA.

Nneka also publish an article on Players Tribune called Bet on Women if you want to read more.
