New Diversity Program for Hollywood
The Hollywood Reporter is taking action about the lack of diversity in Hollywood with a two-year job-training program called the Young Executives Fellowship. In the first year, students are taught about production, marketing and finance. The second year, students spend time in different entertainment companies. Students are guaranteed a paid internship and can expect to be considered for a position after graduation.
This is a program designed to get results. There are many discussions about the lack of diversity yet little is done to make these spaces accessible to people of color and low-income students. This job-training program is a proactive way to solve the problem that we keep discussing. The Young Executives Fellowship gives more students the opportunity to tell their lived experiences and more nuanced stories in Hollywood because there will be more diversity behind the scenes.
